The Great Annapurna Circuit Trek is considered one of the most beautiful treks in the world. Despite road construction in some sections, this legendary route has kept all of its charm and remains one of Nepal’s greatest adventures.
Lasting 17 to 21 days, the trek passes through an incredible variety of landscapes: lush valleys, terraced fields, forests, waterfalls, deep gorges, high arid plateaus, and spectacular Himalayan panoramas.
The route is traditionally completed counterclockwise, allowing better acclimatization before reaching the highest point of the trek: the famous Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), one of the highest trekking passes in the world. From the summit, the views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges are unforgettable.
Throughout the journey, you will admire many prestigious peaks such as Manaslu (8,156 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m). You will also cross the spectacular Kali Gandaki Valley, known for having some of the deepest gorges in the world.
The trek begins in the valley of the Marsyangdi River and gradually climbs to Manang, one of the most iconic villages of the region. The itinerary also includes the magnificent Tilicho Lake (4,920 m), considered one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world, set in a wild and dramatic mountain landscape.
After crossing Thorong La, the descent leads to Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, surrounded by desert-like landscapes with strong Tibetan influence. Lower down, a stop at Tatopani offers the chance to enjoy its famous natural hot springs, perfect for relaxing tired muscles after many days of trekking.
The final part of the trek also offers the superb Annapurna viewpoints, especially around Ghorepani and Poon Hill, where sunrise reveals breathtaking views of Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, and the majestic Machhapuchhre. The trek usually ends with the return to Pokhara.
This trek is done in tea house style, with lodges and restaurants all along the trail, providing a comfortable and authentic journey in the heart of the Himalayas.
