EVEREST REGION
Everest. Sherpa culture. Buddhist heritage. Glaciers. High mountain valleys. A journey into the heart of the Himalayas.
About Trekking in EVEREST REGION
The Everest Region, located in northeastern Nepal within Solukhumbu District of Koshi Province, is one of the most iconic mountain destinations in the world. Home to Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth at 8,849 m / 29,032 ft, the region offers far more than spectacular peaks. It is a place where dramatic Himalayan landscapes, Sherpa culture and centuries-old Buddhist traditions come together.
The region is best known for the Khumbu Valley, where famous villages such as Namche Bazaar, Khumjung, Thame, Tengboche, Dingboche and Pangboche are scattered among high mountain valleys. Trekking through these settlements offers visitors an opportunity to experience the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people, visit Buddhist monasteries and discover a way of life that has developed in close connection with the mountains.
The Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protects much of the Everest region and its remarkable natural environment. The landscape changes dramatically as you gain altitude, from pine and rhododendron forests to alpine meadows, glaciers and rugged high-mountain terrain. Along the way, trekkers encounter some of Nepal’s most impressive peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Pumori.
The Everest Region offers a remarkable variety of trekking experiences. The classic Everest Base Camp Trek leads to the foot of the world’s highest mountain, while the Gokyo Lakes Trek reveals beautiful turquoise glacial lakes and panoramic viewpoints. More adventurous routes cross high passes such as Cho La and Renjo La, while cultural journeys explore remote Sherpa villages and monasteries away from the main trails.
For travellers, the Everest Region is not simply a destination to see Mount Everest. It is an opportunity to walk through the Himalayas, meet the people who call these mountains home, experience Sherpa culture and discover landscapes that change with every step.
