About This Journey

Trip Overview

Ascend the Highest Trekking Peak in Nepal: The Ultimate Mera Peak Expedition
Breach the 6,000-meter barrier and stand atop Nepal’s highest officially designated trekking peak on our premier Mera Peak Climbing expedition. This ultimate Himalayan mountaineering package takes an adventurous path through the wild, untamed wilderness of the Makalu Barun National Park, combining an isolated valley trek with the magnificent high-altitude ascent of Mera Peak (North Summit) at 6,476 M / 21,247 ft.
A Remote Wilderness Approach:
Your journey kicks off with a thrilling flight to Lukla before quickly veering away from the crowded classic trails into the pristine, hidden sanctuary of the Hinku Valley. Traveling through dense rhododendron forests and alpine meadows, this route ensures an exceptional, progressive acclimatization profile as you follow the roaring Hinku River through traditional summer settlements like Kothe and Thangnak. By spending vital staging days at Khare (5,000 M), you give your body the perfect foundation to adapt smoothly to the thinning air before entering the high-altitude glacial zone.
The Grand Glacial Ascent:
Leaving the last permanent teahouses behind, you will step onto the sweeping, majestic glacier to establish a strategic High Camp safely perched on a rocky shelf at 5,780 M. The midnight summit push offers an awe-inspiring, classic alpine experience as you move in roped teams across wide, gradual snow fields under a brilliant canopy of stars. After navigating a final, short, steep snow dome using fixed ropes, you will stand on the narrow summit crest to witness the ultimate panoramic prize: a breathtaking sunrise over five of the world’s fourteen 8,000-meter giants—Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga.
Who is this Adventure For?:
This comprehensive Mera Peak climbing itinerary is perfectly tailored for ambitious alpine trekkers and endurance hill-walkers ready to breach the 6,000-meter barrier. Classified as Alpine Grade PD (Peu Difficile), it provides the ultimate step up into high-altitude mountaineering, emphasizing physical stamina and pacing over complex technical rock climbing. Secure your spot on this premier Nepal peak climbing holiday and experience the true scale of the Himalayas.

Questions and Answers

Frequently asked questions

Mera Peak is classified as Alpine Grade PD (Peu Difficile) and is primarily a non-technical glacier walk rather than a technical climb. You do not need advanced ice or rock climbing experience, but you must be familiar with basic gear such as crampons, a harness, and moving in roped teams. The final 40 meters to the summit involve a short, steep snow dome where you will use an ascender (jumar) on a fixed safety line.

While non-technical, the expedition is highly grueling due to the extreme altitude and thin air. You will be trekking for multiple consecutive days with a summit push that begins at midnight and lasts 8 to 10 hours. Exceptional cardiovascular fitness, leg strength, and endurance are mandatory to complete the climb safely.

Your training should focus heavily on cardiovascular endurance, stamina, and leg strength at least 3 to 6 months before departure. Prioritize long-distance hiking with a weighted pack, stair climbing, running, and cycling. Building a strong aerobic base helps your body utilize oxygen more efficiently at high altitudes.

During the trekking phase up to Khare, you will stay in traditional mountain teahouses, which offer cozy twin-sharing rooms and warm communal dining areas. Once you ascend past Khare to Mera High Camp, you will transition to high-quality, weather-resistant expedition tents pitched directly on a rocky shelf near the glacier.

Yes. A complete set of climbing gear can be rented in Nepal for USD 180. The equipment is in good condition, although we recommend bringing your own gear if possible.

Our itinerary is strategically structured with a progressive valley approach and built-in active rest days at Kothe, Thaknak, and Khare. This allows your body to adapt gradually to the thinning air. Our expedition guides monitor your oxygen saturation levels daily, carry portable altitude chambers or oxygen cylinders, and are fully trained to execute a rapid descent if symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) occur.

You will need standard trekking clothes alongside specialized high-altitude gear. This includes double mountaineering boots, crampons, an ice axe, a climbing harness, ascenders, carabiners, a helmet, a -20°C sleeping bag, a heavy down jacket, and UV-protection glacier glasses. Most technical climbing gear can be rented locally in Khare if you prefer not to fly with it.

Flights to Lukla can be affected by mountain weather. The itinerary includes a buffer day in Kathmandu to help manage possible delays or cancellations and reduce the risk of affecting your international departure. There is option of road transportation available , Travel time 20hrs

The expedition includes experienced climbing guides, camping tents, meals, a kitchen team, essential climbing support, and training before the summit push.

You will witness a breathtaking sunrise over Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga, all surrounded by a spectacular arena of jagged giants like Ama Dablam and Baruntse.
